SUBJECT: Family Updates

Weekly Update August 26, 2025
President's Message

Hello wonderful PTO families!

We’ve got a whole bunch of exciting things cooking, and I’m thrilled to share them with you. Our calendar is brimming with events—like the grandparents lunch and the book fair next week—and we’d absolutely love your help to make it all run smoothly. Check out the volunteer section if you’ve got a little time to spare—we promise to make it as fun as possible!

Just a couple of friendly reminders: if you haven’t done your background check yet, or if you’re not signed up on our PTO website, now’s the perfect time. It’s how we can keep you in the loop on all volunteer opportunities and updates. Plus, don’t forget you can grab your spirit wear and field trip shirts right from our site, so everyone’s ready to show their school spirit.

We’re so grateful for each of you and can’t wait to make this a great year together!

                             Warmly,

   Katy Vendetti

Spirit Nights
Jeremiah's Ice Night

Join us at our local Jeremiah's for Ice Night in support of Harry McKillop Elementary! On Aug. 27th from 12pm-close, Jeremiah's will be donating 20% of your order to support our school!

Be sure to mention this flyer!

Grandparents Lunch

Harry McKillop Elementary will host Grandparents' Day lunches from September 2-5, 2025, welcoming grandparents (or loved ones) to join their students for lunch at school. Grandparents' Day Lunch will be held on the dates below, according to students last names, during the grade-level lunch times. RSVP is required by Friday, Aug. 29, at noon.

Book Fair!

The Literati Book Fair is coming to the Harry McKillop Elementary library from Sept. 2-5, 2025! All purchases directly support our school library.
Hours: Tuesday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. After-school event: Wednesday, 4:00-6:00 p.m.

This year, the Book Fair falls during Grandparents’ Day Lunches, so we welcome grandparents to eat lunch with their students and then shop at the Book Fair during recess time.

Find grade-level lunch and recess times, and find out how to browse books or shop online at: sites.google.com/melissaisd.org/hmebookfair

Volunteer Opportunities

We love our volunteers and appreciate any amount of time you are able to give. Make sure you fill out a background check with the District!

Grandparents Lunch Sign-In Volunteers

Help us roll out the red carpet for our special guests! Volunteers will greet grandparents, assist with sign-in, and make sure everyone knows where to go. It’s a quick and easy way to make a big impact—and we promise, lots of smiles included!

Book Fair Volunteers

Please visit our Volunteer Sign Up Sheet to see how you can help make our book fair a success. Even a small amount of your time makes a big difference! Volunteers assist students with shopping, help keep the book fair organized, run the registers, and help set up/take down the fair. Please note that all volunteers must have a Melissa ISD Background Check on file.
